MacArthur Foundation Launches Digital Media and Learning Competition

December 15, 2009

The MacArthur Foundation has launched a $2 million open competition to generate ideas to create new and engaging methods of learning science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) that can be incorporated into schools, libraries, museums, and other educational institutions.

Awards for the Digital Media and Learning Competition will be in two categories: "21st Century Learning Lab Designers" and "Game Changers." The "Learning Lab Designer" contest is looking for innovative ideas to use digital media to create learning environments that are engaging, immersive, and participatory. The "Game Changers" award challenges designers to create new educational gaming experiences using PlayStation's LittleBigPlanet video game.

The competition was announced in November to coincide with President Obama's new "Educate to Innovate" campaign (story here).

All proposals will be posted for public comments. After three rounds of submissions, winners will be announced in spring 2010. Find about more about the competition here.
