Six Mathematicians Elected to the
National Academy of Sciences
Late in April, the National Academy of Sciences elected 72 new members and 15 foreign associate members. This year's list includes six mathematicians: David W. McLaughlin of the Courant Institute, Peter Sarnak of Princeton University, Peter W. Shor of AT&T Laboratories, David O. Siegmund of Stanford University, Yum-Tong Siu of Harvard University, and David P. Ruelle of the Institut des Hautes Etudes Scientifiques, who was elected as a foreign associate.
