U.S. Team Takes First Place at European Girls’ Mathematical Olympiad

Washington, DC - The U.S. team took first place at the European Girls’ Mathematical Olympiad (EGMO) held April 7-13, 2019 in Kyiv, Ukraine against teams from 50 countries. In addition to first place team honors, each member of the four-person team was awarded a medal for their individual performance on the challenging mathematics exam.

U.S. Team Takes Top Prize at Romanian Master of Mathematics

Washington, DC - A team of United States high school students, organized by the Mathematical Association of America, won first place for the second consecutive year at the Romanian Master of Mathematics (RMM) competition held Feb. 20 - 25 in Bucharest, Romania.

Putnam Competition Announces Top Students in Undergraduate Mathematics

WASHINGTON, DC - The results of the 2018 William Lowell Putnam Mathematical Competition, the pre-eminent mathematics competition for undergraduates in the US and Canada, were announced today.

MAA to Honor Distinguished Service to Mathematics at Joint Mathematics Meetings

WASHINGTON, DC - Awards for the year’s distinguished service to mathematics will be given to mathematicians Suzanne Dorée of Augsburg University and the MAA North Central Section, Carl Lee of Central Michigan University and the MAA Michigan Section, and Jennifer Switkes of California State Polytechnic University-Pomona and the MAA Southern California Section by the Mathematical Association of America (MAA) on Jan. 17, 2019 at the Joint Mathematics Meetings, the world’s largest gathering of mathematicians, in Baltimore. 

MAA to Honor Authors of Year’s Best Writing in Mathematics

WASHINGTON, DC - Awards for the year’s best writing on mathematics will be given to Tom Leinster and Cathy O’Neill by the Mathematical Association of America (MAA). The award winners will receive their prizes on Jan. 17, 2019 at the Joint Mathematics Meetings, the world’s largest gathering of mathematicians, in Baltimore.
