MAA to Honor Recipient of Gung and Hu Service Award

WASHINGTON, DC - The Yueh-Gin Gung and Dr. Charles Y. Hu Award for Distinguished Service to Mathematics, the Mathematical Association of America’s (MAA) most prestigious award for service, will be awarded to Philip Uri Treisman of the University of Texas at Austin and the MAA Texas Section on Jan.

MAA and the Joint Mathematics Meetings

The MAA and AMS have shared management, as well as contributed equally to the programming, of the Joint Mathematics Meetings (JMM) under an agreement that has been in place since 1998. Through extensive discussions over the last 5 years, MAA and AMS have agreed that the agreement no longer meets the needs of either organization and will end following JMM 2021.

MAA Thanks Outgoing Associate Secretary, Welcomes New Officer to Role

Washington, DC - Since 2009, Gerard Venema has served as the associate secretary of the Mathematical Association of America (MAA). Venema, a professor at Calvin College, oversaw the scientific program of the MAA’s two annual national meetings, MAA MathFest and the Joint Mathematics Meetings (JMM) in his capacity as associate secretary which will be filled by Hortensia Soto, a professor at the University of Northern Colorado.

Mathematical Association of America Welcomes New Deputy Executive Director, Rachel Levy

Washington, DC - Rachel Levy, former professor and associate dean at Harvey Mudd College, joined the Mathematical Association of America (MAA) as deputy executive director on Aug. 1, 2018. An active member of the MAA, Levy brings guidance and leadership to the MAA’s mission to advance the understanding of mathematics and its impact on our world.
