Sylvestre François Lacroix (1765-1843) was a French mathematician and noted teacher and textbook writer. Many of his books were translated into English and adopted in the schools of Great Britain and the United States for the teaching of mathematics. In 1805, Lacroix published Essais sur l’enseignement en général: et sur celui des mathématiques en particulier (Essays on Teaching in General: and the Teaching of Mathematics in Particular). Here are images from the fourth edition of 1838.

The “Table of Contents” provides a list of topics Lacroix considered on teaching in general.
