This is a collection of nine independent research papers. Four of these focus on the representations of the symmetric group and Standard Young Tableaux. The other five chapters do not have such a unifying theme, but they all study areas where combinatorics, algebra, and geometry overlap, such as polytopes, lattice points, and hyperplane arrangements. The algebraic component is dominant throughout the volume.

The level of each article is very high, and for most of them, at least an advanced graduate student's knowledge is needed to even start reading. This is probably necessary when the authors' goal is to survey recent results, not a field as a whole.

For all these reasons, the main use of the book will be as reference material. The individual chapters will be useful tools for researchers working in relevant fields.

Miklós Bóna is a Professor and Distinguished Teaching Scholar at the University of Florida, and the author and editor of several books. His main research interest is Enumerative Combinatorics.
