Juan Martinez Siliceo (1486-1557) was a Spaniard, a Roman Catholic cardinal, and a recognized mathematician. He published several books on the use of arithmetic. His most famous work was Ars arithmetica (1514). First printed in Paris, this book went through many printings in Spain, where it became extremely popular.
