Mathematical Treasure: Markus Christian Ries’s Praxis Geometriae

This practical geometry textbook, Praxis Geometriae, was published in Nuremberg in 1700. Geometrical constructions and instruments depicted resemble those used during the time period for surveying and building military fortifications. The author is a Markus Christian Reis, identified on the title page as a military engineer. Nothing further is known of him.
