Mathematical Treasure: Notes on Lectures of Poincaré

Author(s):
Frank J. Swetz (The Pennsylvania State University)

The brothers Etienne Pomey and Jean Baptiste Pomey were students of Henri Poincaré (1854-1912) when he taught at the Université de Paris. They kept detailed notes of his lectures they attended in the period 1881-1883. These notes, entitled Devoirs et mes conférences de Poincaré, can be found at the University of Pennsylvania Library (reference LJS 218). These notes were annotated by Poincaré himself as well as by the mathematician and astronomer Victor Puiseux (1820-1883). The brothers went on to become mathematicians and, eventually, published several books.
