Author(s):
Frank J. Swetz (Pennsylvania State University)

Gemma Frisius's Arithmeticae practicae, first published in 1540, went through several editions. Here are the title pages for the 1540 and 1567 editions. Note the change of illustration. Is there significance in using a different illustration?

These images are supplied through the courtesy of ETH-Bibliothek Zürich and are available via e-rara. For three images from another copy of the 1540 edition, see Mathematical Treasures - Gemma Frisius's Arithmeticae methodis facilis.
