The bivalves are less diversed in their shape than gastropods. The shell of bivalves has two pieces (valves). The bittersweet clams (glycymeris) are found worldwide and have a circular or oval outline, prominent umbones, and are ribbed or almost smooth. They burrow in sand or gravel offshore. The european bittersweet is a solid, thick shell with an almost circular outline.
Habitat: mud and sand offshore, North Sea to Mediterranean.
