How to Build and Run a Successful Emerging Scholars Program

David Kung, Teri Murphy, Katherine Socha, Natasha Speer
August 2 - 5, 2009
Portland, Oregon

Primary funding provided by the Division of Undergraduate Education at the National Science Foundation (DUE-0817071).

We regret that this workshop will not be held in 2009-2010.

Description:
Mathematics departments have long suffered from an inability to retain well-prepared underrepresented students (especially African-Americans and Latino/as), effectively restricting their choices of majors and careers. This workshop will assist mathematics faculty in leveling the playing field by establishing an Emerging Scholars Program, a model with a 30-year history of documented success. Participants will leave with the knowledge, materials and plans to propose, launch, and run a successful program tailored to their institutions.

Learn more about this workshop at the How to Build and Run a Successful Emerging Scholars Program website.
