Applications Invited for Dolciani Visiting Mathematician Position

The MAA invites applications to serve as Dolciani Visiting Mathematician in the fall of 2016.

Funded by the Mary P. Dolciani Halloran Foundation, the purpose of the program is to provide mathematical sciences faculty the opportunity to serve as a visiting mathematician at the national offices of the MAA and to contribute to the advancement of K-16 mathematics education, consistent with the mission of the MAA. The visiting mathematician will work to implement initiatives that foster meaningful discussion and cross-pollination of ideas between the college and secondary mathematics teaching communities. (S)he will work to promote rich mathematical experiences for students at both levels as well. (S)he may travel to give talks, visit schools and colleges, and provide professional development for teachers and faculty.

Applications are welcome from faculty with a sabbatical scheduled for fall 2016. A plan of work for the semester can balance the work between projects explicitly tied to MAA, and efforts connected with the ongoing research program of the Visiting Mathematician.

Total funding for the Visiting Mathematician is $25,000.00, and can be taken as a combination of stipend and travel reimbursement, depending on the proposed plan of work during the term.

Please send a letter of application that details specific projects and goals suitable for a one-semester appointment, along with a current resume, to the MAA Executive Director, Michael Pearson, at hr@maa.org. Applications are due by March 15, 2016.
