Maria Monks Wins 2011 Morgan Prize

Maria Monks was awarded the 2011 Frank and Brennie Morgan Prize for Outstanding Research in Mathematics by an Undergraduate Student during the Joint Prize Session at the 2011 Joint Mathematics Meetings.

Monks was recognized for her impressive work in combinatorics and number theory. Her papers have appeared in Advances in Applied Mathematics, Proceedings of the AMS, The Electronic Journal of Combinatorics, Discrete Mathematics, and The Journal of Combinatorial Theory, Series A.

Monks attended MIT and holds a Master's degree from Cambridge University. She will begin a Ph.D. program at the University of California, Berkeley.



The $1,000 award, which is given annually by the MAA, the AMS, and SIAM, was presented during the 2011 Joint Mathematics Meetings, which was held this year in New Orleans. The prize was founded in 1995.
