New Play Brings Wonder of Math to Middle School Students

March 24, 2010

A play about mathematics titled Eureka! is currently touring to spread the word that math is part of our world.

The play focuses on Sara, a typical 7th grader struggling with her math classes. The night before a big test, she's visited by some of the luminaries of the mathematical world, including Albert Einstein, Blaise Pascal, Lady Ada Lovelace, and Pythagoras.

According to a review in The Boston Globe, "In the course of 60 funny and imaginative minutes, Wainwright-Branigan (playwright) manages to work in explanations of number theory, order of operations, probability, prime numbers, the Fibonacci sequence, the origins of the calculator and computer, Pascal’s triangle, and the golden ratio."

The play is produced by Boston-based Chamber Theatre Productions, a company that tours the country with plays that support middle- and high-school instruction.

More information is available on the Chamber Theatre Productions website.
