Susanne Brenner Named 2011 AWM-SIAM Kovalevsky Lecturer

 The Association for Women in Mathematics (AWM) and the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM) have selected Susanne C. Brenner to deliver the Sonia Kovalevsky Lecture at the International Congress on Industrial and Applied Mathematics.

The Congress will be held in Vancouver in July 2011.
 
Brenner, who is the Michael F. and Roberta Nesbit McDonald Professor of Mathematics at Louisiana State University, was named because of in her research accomplishments in multigrid methods, domain decomposition methods, and finite element analysis.

The author of over 70 research articles and co-author of a monograph titled The Mathematical Theory of Finite Element Methods, Brenner serves on the editorial boards of the Notices of the AMS, SIAM Journal on Numerical Analysis, Numerische Mathematik, Mathematics of Computation, and Electronic Transactions on Numerical Analysis.

Brenner is a member of the SIAM Council and serves as SIAM’s Vice President for Publications. She is also a member of the Scientific Council for the Centre International de Mathématiques Pures et Appliquées and the National Advisory Board for the Statistical and Applied Mathematical Sciences Institute.

Brenner has held numerous visiting professorships, including those at the Max-Planck Institute, Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, Imperial College, Université de Paris VI, the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the IMA, and MSRI.
