Yau and Sullivan Win Wolf Prize in Mathematics

The Wolf Foundation recently announced that its 2010 mathematics prize will be shared by two U.S. professors: Shing-Tung Yau (Harvard University) for contributions in geometric analysis; and Dennis SullivanCity University of New York) for contributions to algebraic topology and conformal dynamics.

The $100,000 Wolf Prize, which will be split between the two mathematicians, will be awarded in a ceremony on May 13, 2010.

Shing-Tung Yau received the Fields Medal in 1982 and the National Medal of Science in 1997.

Dennis Sullivan's awards include the 1971 Oswald Veblen Prize in Geometry; the 1981 Prix Élie Cartan of the French Academy of Sciences; and the 2004 National Medal of Science.

The Wolf Foundation was founded by the late Ricardo Wolf, a German-born inventor, philanthropist, and former Cuban ambassador to Israel.
