Sports examples provide a familiar context for communicating concepts of probability and statistics. Participants will be introduced to a range of statistical applications from sports. Several prototype classes will be described, including an introductory statistics class and a class taught to fulfill a Sport and Life requirement. Instruction will be provided on downloading sports data from the internet and the use of the statistical package R and other software in performing exploratory analyses of the data. The participants will be required to modify one of their existing courses in probability and statistics with the inclusion of sports material.
