This set of text modules shows how the matrix exponential may be defined in several ways by analogy with various definitions of the function \(e^x\) as a limit of powers, as a sum of powers, via the Laplace transform, and via eigenvalues and eigenvectors. In each case the method is applied to three matrices. In same cases MATLAB code is provided to confirm the stated results. The set of modules closes with an example of the mass-spring-damper system, and how the associated second-degree ODE can be solve dusing the matrix exponential.

Nice write up on the matrix exponential.
