Position Summary
The Mathematics Department at Columbus State University invites applications for a tenure-track position in mathematics beginning August 2008. Rank open, based upon previous experience. Normal responsibilities include teaching four courses per semester, continued scholarship, and service to the department, to the institution, and to the community. First-year faculty members teach three courses per semester and get a release from most service obligations. The specialty is open, but we especially encourage applicants who are prepared to contribute to our actuarial mathematics or teaching preparation program.
The Mathematics Department offers baccalaureate programs of study in mathematics, actuarial mathematics, statistics, and secondary education; we are also committed to maintaining a proactive role in the mathematical preparation of K-12 teachers. We serve a diverse student body consisting largely of commuting students, with an average age of 26 years. Candidates for this position will teach courses for majors and non-majors, including courses in the calculus sequence and in the candidate's area of specialization. Candidates for this position should have completed or anticipate the completion of a Ph.D. in Mathematics, Mathematics Education or Applied Mathematics.
Responsibilities will include teaching and advising in the undergraduate program and contributing to college initiatives. Full-time, tenure track position to teach mathematics courses ranging from developmental to calculus with an emphasis on developmental. Additional duties include advising students, curriculum development and committee work. Opportunities may exist to teach a flexible schedule that may include teaching assignments days, evenings and weekends.
This position is available August, 2008. Starting salaries are dependent on education and experience but normally range from $44,243 - $61,828. This is two semester assignment with opportunities to earn significant additional income through overload and summer remuneration. Qualifications: A Doctorate in Mathematics Education with a minimum of 18 hours of graduate-level mathematics courses is required. The successful candidate must show evidence of excellence in teaching, potential for research in mathematics education, commitment to outreach in K-12 schools, and effective communication skills. Teaching experience in grades K-12 and experience in web-based learning are desirable. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Duties: The successful candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in mathematics for preservice and inservice teachers. S/he will be active in mathematics education research and in grant writing. S/he will cooperate with other faculty members to review and revise mathematics courses for teachers at all levels, to recruit prospective mathematics teachers, and to support the UTeach grant for mathematics and science.

DESCRIPTION: North Dakota State University invites applications for a tenure-track appointment in mathematics education to begin August, 2008. The successful candidate will serve as a core faculty member for a proposed Ph.D. program in STEM Education. He/she will develop and contribute to an externally funded research program that includes funded opportunities for Ph.D. students.
Candidates are expected to have a doctorate in mathematics or in mathematics education, an emerging record of scholarly accomplishment, a strong mathematics background, and evidence of a capacity to contribute to the intellectual, research, and instructional life of NDSU. The successful candidate will have a tenure home within the College of Science & Mathematics (80% appointment), with a cross-appointment (20%) in the School of Education.
The successful candidate will conduct research and teach undergraduate and graduate level courses. Additional duties will vary depending on rank, university and academic unit education needs, and the individual candidate's experience and interest. He/she will be involved in nurturing/leading collaborations among faculty interested in teaching and learning in STEM disciplines.
