Tom Siegfried argues in Business Insider that both medical schools and journalism programs need to do a better job equipping students to interpret statistics and evaluate evidence.

Siegfried recalls a 1978 study that revealed how few doctors understand the relationship between the accuracy of a screening test and the probability of the screened-for disease, and reports that a recent repeat of the study turned up similarly discouraging results.
