Contests

The William Lowell Putnam Competition has been administered by the MAA for over sixty years. This contest for college students is held in December. More detailed information is available here.

The Mathematical Contest in Modeling and the Interdisciplinary Contest in Modeling are administered by COMAP (the Consortium for Mathematics and its Applications). In these contests, held each year in February, teams of students work on problems in applied mathematics. Here is an article on the 2007 MAA prize-winning teams.

There are many regional mathematics competitions. Here are a few:

The Gainesville State College Math Tournament is held in the spring of each year. The competition features both individual and team events involving problems from calculus, trigonometry, geometry, statistics, and algebra. Students from schools that offer only two-year degree programs in mathematics are invited to participate. It is an all day event at the GSC campus in Gainesville, Georgia.

The Indiana College Mathematics Competition, sponsored by the Indiana Section of the MAA, has been going strong since 1966 and is the subject of an MAA book, A Friendly Mathematics Competition: 35 Years of Teamwork in Indiana.

The Missouri Collegiate Mathematics Competition is administered by the Missouri Section and is open to teams of 1-3 undergraduates from colleges and universities in Missouri.

The Virginia Tech Regional Mathematics Contest is held in November.
