2010 MathCounts Winners Meet The President

July 2, 2010

The top six middle-school winners of this year's MathCounts National Competition met President Obama in the Oval Office on June 28, 2010.

The President offered his congratulations and said that the students will come to rely on their problem-solving skills.

The competitors were led by 13-year-old Mark Sellke (West Lafayette, Indiana), whose father is a statistics professor.

Lou DiGioia, the competition's executive director, said the fact that the President set aside time to recognize the students "is a testament to the importance of math education in this country."

More than 100,000 students took part in Raytheon's annual event.
