Submit an NSF Proposal with MAA

Partner with the MAA! On a proposal to NSF.

Did you know that as a member of MAA, you can work with our Programs team to submit an NSF proposal?

Most of our current programming is funded through NSF with help from external Principal Investigators (PIs). By partnering with MAA for an NSF-funded program, there are advantages to both the MAA and our PIs. The MAA is able to offer a new resource to the math community to increase engagement, while the PI is equipped with MAA’s back office support to submit a proposal, able to access MAA’s resources to complete project research, and gains the opportunity to experience running a program under the prestigious support of the National Science Foundation – a great feather in the cap for your CV!

MAA is always open to ideas on potential projects, including those that are currently trending in the math community and/or those that would benefit from additional research. We also strive to partner with PIs on projects that are closely aligned with our core values: Community, Inclusivity, Communication, and Teaching and Learning.

When considering partnering with MAA on a potential project, please keep the following items in mind:

  1. If there is a specific NSF solicitation that you would like to submit a proposal for, please make sure that you reach out to MAA at least 3 months prior to proposal due date.
  2. We know that the full project still needs to be planned, but it would be great to have a potential project team in mind when submitting a prospectus.
  3. MAA requires that all project budgets include line items for MAA personnel and will need to include MAA’s indirect cost rate of 47%.
