Core Common State Standards Up for Consideration

June 22, 2010

Now that National Governors Association Center for Best Practices and the Council of Chief State School Officers have unveiled their set of state-led education standards, called the Common Core State Standards, it's decision time for the states and Washington, D.C.

They must say yes or no to the Common Core State Standards by the beginning of August 2010.

The intent is that the standards will lead to clear and consistent goals for learning, which will prepare America’s children and young adults for success in college, work, and careers. These English-language arts and mathematics standards for grades K-12 were developed by content experts, the states, teachers, school administrators, and parents.
