Steven G. Krantz Appointed Editor of Notices of the AMS

Steven G. Krantz (Washington University in St. Louis) will be the next editor of Notices of the American Mathematical Society starting with the January 2010 issue. He succeeds Andy Magid (Ohio University), who has been editor since January 2004.

Notices magazine offers exposition about mathematics and its intriguing history, news about contemporary mathematics and its practitioners, and information about the mathematical sciences and its relevant organizations and institutions. 

 Krantz received a B.A. from the University of California, Santa Cruz, in 1971 and a Ph.D. from Princeton University in 1974. In addition to teaching, he has been a graduate student advisor, a member of panels and committees, an invited speaker at national meetings, and a conference organizer. He's also prolific, having written 150 mathematical articles and more than 50 books. The MAA has published several of Krantz's works, including his latest book An Episodic History of Mathematics, which will be available in early 2010.
