Travel Grants to ICM 2010 (Maybe)

November 9, 2009

Pending a request to the National Science Foundation for funding,  the American Mathematical Society is now accepting applications for more than 100 travel grants to the upcoming International Congress of Mathematicians (ICM 2010).  The 2010 Congress will be held in Hyderabad, India, on August 19–27. The application period ends Nov. 15, 2009.

The ICM takes place every four years and is one of the key gatherings of the world's leading mathematicians. Open to U.S. mathematicians affiliated with U.S. institutions, the AMS travel program will help ensure a healthy representation of American mathematicians. Early career mathematicians—those within six years of a doctorate—as well as women and members of groups underrepresented in mathematics are encouraged to apply. ICM 2010 invited speakers from U.S. institutions can also submit applications.

Each grant is worth $2,750. The AMS is requesting $323,150 from the NSF: $316,250 for the travel awards and $6,900 to administer the program. The society has administered similar travel programs since ICM 1990, held in Kyoto. For details, contact ICM2010@ams.org; or call 800-321-4267, or 401-455-4113.
