About the Author (from Lake Forest College, 2006): Steven Galovich, received his BA and BS degrees from the University of California-Davis and a Ph.D. from Brown. He specialized in number theory and was known for his excellent writing and his advocacy for writing in mathematics. He taught for twenty years at Carleton College and twelve years at Lake Forest College where he was also Provost and Dean of Faculty. He passed away on December 14, 2006.
