Administration Ruling

Early administration is NEVER permitted and will lead to a disqualification of the results. Such an administration would jeopardize the validity of all scores from nearby schools.

The official designated day for the AMC 8 is TUESDAY the week before the week of Thanksgiving. This year , , is the official date for the AMC 8. However, the following statements are provided in the AMC 8 Teachers' Manual:

Official Administration:
If you are unable to give the contest on November 13th because

  1. your school is closed,
  2. your school has an academic conflict,
  3. the class periods have been shortened due to an assembly or other reason, or
  4. the majority of your students will be on a field trip,

then your school may use any day between . The AMC 8 should be given officially on the first day that the school is open between, . If the school will be closed or has an academic conflict with the designated day then it may give the exam officially the next day the school is open and back to normal class scheduling, namely, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, or Monday or Tuesday of the week of Thanksgiving. The principal must sign and date a statement on the certification form indicating the nature of the official school function or academic conflict.

Unofficial administration:
Administration after this window period is permitted. Be sure to mark the exceptions box at the bottom of the certification form as indicated. The last date to take the contest unofficially is , .

CONSEQUENCES OF UNOFFICIAL ADMINISTRATION OF THE AMC 8:
The name of the school will still be published in the NATIONAL SUMMARY OF RESULTS, as well as the name of the students who achieve honor status, in a special section of the National Summary of Results and Awards. These students and teachers are not eligible for National Awards.
