FAQ: MAA MathFest 2021

Q: Is MAA MathFest 2021 happening in Sacramento, CA this year?

A: While our preference is to have MAA MathFest in-person, attendee health and safety are of paramount concern. We are committed to providing a highly engaging and interactive virtual meeting with a possible option for in-person attendance August 4-7, 2021 in Sacramento.

As the COVID-19 situation evolves so do our preparations, the safety of our attendees, exhibitors, sponsors, and staff is our top priority. Please understand that circumstances may require us to alter our plans as we approach the date of the meeting. We appreciate your patience in this rapidly changing environment. We will share more updates on programming with you as it evolves.

Q: When can I register for MAA MathFest?

A: Registration for MAA MathFest will open in April 2021. Registration fees will be reduced to make the virtual conference widely accessible. In-person attendees will have access to the virtual conference as well.

Q: Will a virtual conference be interactive and have networking opportunities?

A: Yes, virtual session attendees will be able to join the online sessions at scheduled times to pose questions and interact with the speakers. We are currently working on how to maximize networking events in a virtual environment.

Q: Can I present at MAA MathFest 2021?

Q: What if my session was rescheduled from MAA MathFest 2020 to MAA MathFest 2021? Will my abstract be accepted to the rescheduled session?

A: If your session was previously accepted for MAA MathFest 2020, and moved to MAA MathFest 2021, a member of the Council on Meetings will be reaching out to you about rescheduling your session. You do not need to resubmit the session. If you have any questions contact Hortensia Soto at

Q: Will my SIGMAA still meet if MAA MathFest is virtual?

A: SIGMAAs are welcome to meet virtually and should submit their request to meet on the proposal site before April 5. Contact Hortensia Soto, MAA Associate Secretary, with any questions.

Q: Will my committee still meet if MAA MathFest is virtual?

A: Committees are welcome to meet virtually as they have already been doing. Committee chairs will be responsible for scheduling meetings and can contact the MAA Secretary at to help schedule virtual meetings.

Q: How is MAA monitoring the current COVID-19 situation in regards to MAA MathFest?

A: We are committed to monitoring changes and updates from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and the city of Sacramento, working closely with our partners in Sacramento to determine how to safely hold an in-person event and at what scale. We appreciate your patience in this rapidly changing environment.

It is important to remember that despite best efforts to plan - the continually evolving situation means that plans may change. Thus, as we make preparations we remind everyone that circumstances may require us to alter plans as we approach the date of the meeting.
