Colin Maclaurin died at age 48 in Edinburgh, Scotland. In 1745 he organized the defense of Edinburgh. With tireless energy, he planned and supervised the hastily erected fortifications, and, indeed, drove himself to a state of exhaustion from which he never recovered.
